History of Perfume & Fragrance

Perfume is one of those products that may influence our emotions. People`s sense of smell influences behavior and sets different moods. It may even bring up memories of the past. As a marketing tool, perfume is also present in our everyday lives and it can be found in lots of consumer products. Besides the fact that perfume is so popular, have you ever wandered how it came into being what it is today? What`s the history of perfume?

Some anthropologists say that perfume was used by primitive man thru the burning of gums and resins for incense. Eventually from 7000 to 4000 bc, richly scented plants, animal and fatty oils of olive and sesame are thought to have been combined with fragrant plants to create original ointments.

Three thousand years ago in ancient Egypt, historians believe that perfume was first used in rituals, as part of their religious ceremonies, creating a pleasant smell. These scents came from gums, resin trees, oil and from a variety of plants resulting in a perfume unguent that was rubbed into the skin. Hundreds of years later, women of Egypt were using perfume for their cosmetic qualities. It is believed that Egytptian queen Cleopatra had her own exclusive balms and scents used as cosmetics and aphrodisiac, which helped her to conquer Julius Caesar and later Mark Anthony. Also from this same era, it is believed that perfume was used in Mesopotamia for ritual ceremonies. And farther east, in China, aromatic herbs were used for medicine purposes.

Later on as trade routes expanded, perfume became very popular and demand for scent products increased trade among different civilizations. Africa and India started to supply Middle Eastern civilization with spikenard and ginger. Syrians sold fragrant goods to Arabia. Mediterranean civilization began buying cymbopogon and ginger from South Arabia. And so the trade of scent goods kept on, and as it continued to swell, fragrance perfume was eventually introduced thru time to several civilizations such as Hindus, Israelites, Carthaginians, Arabs, Greeks, Romans and finally reintroduced hundreds of years later in Italy and France.

By the 13th century Italy was doing major trades of spices and perfumes with Eastern civilizations. Portugal and Spain were also trying to establish important trades of spices by having exclusive routes to the East. That`s how the new world of America got to be discovered.

As Italian perfume influence swept over neighboring countries, France began expanding the use of perfume by first offering perfumed gloves, which were most often perfumed with neroli or animal scents such as ambergris and civet. From then on, French perfume has become famous worldwide and today sets the standard for excellence.

Also France played a major role in reestablishing the use of perfume for therapeutic purposes in the western world. It has been reported that during Word War II, therapeutic perfume had been used in the treatment of wounds and burns, and later in the treatment of psychiatric problems.

Perfume has brought different people together in the past thru the trade of aromatic scents. It also played a major deal, since its trade meant economical power for the nations. And so the history of modern man has been greatly influenced by this special product, enabling new worlds to be discovered. On a personal level, perfume is capable of influencing people`s behavior and that by itself sets perfume in class by itself. Perhaps that`s what makes it so desirable by all of us.

How To Find Scholarships To Help You With Nursing School

Statistics show that college costs are rising dramatically. Some schools cost upwards of $30,000 per year, not including textbooks and other supplies. This is leading to a sharp decline in enrollment. Should you give up your dream of becoming a nurse? Perhaps not, there is high demand for nurses. For this reason, nursing school scholarships are easy to find.

Though there are many nursing school scholarships available to men and woman who dream of entering the field of nursing, you do have to do your research. Plan to spend a good deal of time searching for grants and scholarships online, in medical publications, local hospitals, and through university financial departments.

The best place to start searching for nursing school scholarships is at the colleges or universities where you plan to apply. Every college or university has a toll-free phone number. Call the financial department and ask for help in finding scholarships or grants that apply to your needs and financial standing.

In some cases, the institution for higher learning will only give you this information if you have been accepted. If that is the case with one or more of your choices, you may want to start your search online. Check with the federal government as they have many programs available. Many online companies will run the searches for you at no charge, use them to your advantage. Avoid companies who make you pay any fees.

Check with hospitals and medical practices in your area for any grants and nursing school scholarships that are available. They will have lists of grants, scholarships, and even work study programs. They may also be able to help you select the best area colleges and universities. Some hospitals may even agree to pay for your education if you sign a contract with them that states in exchange for your college education you will remain an employee of their hospital for a certain number of years. This is an excellent program that keeps young adults from leaving states after college.

Remember that some scholarships will be restricted to minority groups, low income families, children of labor union organizations, athletic groups, children whose parents are employees of certain businesses, foster children, and honor students. Do not become discouraged when you discover that there is not much out there that fits your needs. Keep searching because you will come across a number of suitable programs. It just takes time.

Being organized is essential when searching for nursing school scholarships and grants. Keep all necessary paperwork on hand and ready to be faxed or mailed to the financial program. Income statements, personal essays, and school transcripts are usually required additions to the application. Make sure you have them handy.

Regardless of your financial or ethnic standings, there are nursing school scholarships available. Stick with it and you can make your dreams of nursing come true.

How To Turn Your Golfing Pastime Into A Ticket To College

Do you love the game of golf? Is being out in the sun trying to capture that elusive hole in one, a dream come true? Why not put your skills to use and gain a scholarship to the college or university of your choice?

Did you even know that many colleges and universities offer golf scholarships? You are not alone. Few realize that a passion for golf can help gain affordable entry into a college or university that meets and exceeds many dreams. It is not hard to receive one of these scholarships, but it does take a little marketing.

Golf scholarships are usually only partial scholarships. They will not cover the entire cost of your education, but every little bit helps. The good news is that because they are only partial, there are more of them. It is easier to get a golf scholarship than it is a baseball, football, or hockey scholarship. Odds are high that you can nab a partial scholarship to the school of your choice.

There are more than 280 colleges for men and around 215 colleges for women that offer golf programs at a division one level. For division two, there are around 185 colleges for men and 90 colleges for women that offer golfing. This means there are more than 3,500 scholarships available for both men and women.

Not every school offers a golfing program, so you will need to check carefully to see if the schools on your list have them. If not, you may need to be adaptable to where you get your college education.

The most important trick is to make yourself know to golfing scouts. Play golf in high school if possible, some schools offer golf as an extracurricular sport. Get to know the different coaches. Be subtle, but charm them into knowing and remembering your name. Play well and make sure they know you are excelling.

To gain a golfing scholarship, you will need to contact the colleges that make your list and then ask them for information on the program. You will need to pay attention to the rules of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.) They have strict rules that must be followed, but they also keep detailed lists of all available scholarships and offer information for both students and parents.

When applying for a golfing scholarship, you will need to prove you excelled at both golf and in school. Read all applications carefully and provide all of the necessary forms. Failure to do so can lead to a declined application. If you have questions, always ask first before sending in your forms.

You can use your passion for golf to receive a scholarship that will help you gain a college education while enjoying your sport. Take time to thoroughly research your options and then enjoy the ride!

How To Choose The Most Appropriate Educational Toys For Your Children

Life would be much easier if we could just accept the fact that kids have always, and will always, spend most their time playing with toys. It doesn't even matter what type of toy it is, kids will play with whatever, even a ball attached to a stick. As a parent, you can take advantage of this trait and "trick" kids into learning by playing. Kids, it is true, will play with anything that grabs their attention, so all the clever parents needs to do is give them appealing toys that will teach at the same time as they provide amusement.

While many people might object and say that educational toys are no fun, and that kids will not play with them, they are completely wrong. If you think that toys that teach are not fun, you simply have not found the right toy yet. Properly executed educational toys are tons of fun.

How is it possible for toys to educate my child, you ask? Well, by interacting with whatever rules or system a toy develops, children utilize certain skills. Educational toys are crafted in a way that promotes the use of skills that will be beneficial to children as they age. Skills that can be learned include fine motor skills, verbal and aural recognition skills, and problem solving skills.

Many of these skills come from various types of "puzzles" which are not necessarily the jigsaw type. If you want this type of educational toy to succeed you must choose a puzzle that is suited to your child's needs and interests. If your child likes to solve mysteries, perhaps a toy that asks them to add together different math problems to get clues to a crime would be the perfect toy for them. If you head to your local toy store you should find literally hundreds of different puzzles, but if that errand doesn't turn anything up you can also search on the Internet. Searching on the net will also allow you to see what other parents think of whichever toy you are considering.

You know your child better than anyone, so you will know if puzzles are going to work for him or her. If they are not, maybe you should consider an electronic alternative, video games. That's right, not all video games center on a never ending stock of enemies to kill or sports, and there are many that will help your child to learn. Remember that the games on the computer are helping them learn, and that just because it is a game doesn't mean that it is a waste of time.

Finally, if you are simply overwhelmed by the choices available to you after you've started looking into educational toys and games, remember that there is a huge online community of other parents who are in the same boat as you are. You can connect with them and work together to educate your kids, the fun way. That old Italian saying about it taking a village to raise a child may be true after all.

Teach Your Child Through Playing Using Toys That Teach

Everyone knows that toddlers love to play with toys, and are compelled by curiosity to reach for everything that comes their way. Well, it's time to use that curiousness to babies' advantage and give them toys that will teach them.

There are several different ways to get educational toys for toddlers. The first, and most obvious, place to look would be your local toy stores. You'll almost certainly come across an educational toy between the aisles of Barbie and toy soldiers. In fact, you might be overwhelmed by the selection! But if you can't find anything suitable at your local toy store, then you can turn to the Internet. Go on-line and search for "educational toys for toddlers" and see what pops up. The results would keep your kids busy until they've got kids of their own! After you've investigated some of these options, you might want to consider the products below, which have proven useful for many parents.

The chatterbox telephone is a toy telephone that speaks to kids who play with it in several different languages. You can use it to teach your toddler your native language, or even perhaps help them to pick up a bit of a foreign tongue. Children love to pretend to talk on the telephone so this toy is always a big hit.

Spin and play centers are engrossing toys that stick to any surface with their suction cup bottoms and provide logical problems for your toddler to solve by spinning dials, pulling levers, and turning knobs. Needless to say, it will keep them occupied for hours, and build their ability to think abstractly.

The curiosity cube is a cube that provides a wide range of activities tide to different senses. It will help toddlers focus their attention, and increase their knowledge in various areas, including understanding of words and recognition of different colors, shapes, and numbers.

This is a veritable classic of children's toys, present in waiting rooms around the world. The primary colored wooden blocks glide along metal rails, directed by toddlers' hands and gravity. This will teach toddlers that most basic premise, what goes up must come down.

These are just a few of the toys available that will help educate your toddler, and the field continues to grow daily. By keeping your eyes attuned when you are in toyshops, or doing an occasional web search for educational toys, you will stay on top of recent arrivals. And it is worth it to do so, because everything that helps your toddler increase their mental ability will help ensure that they succeed later in life.

A Closer Look At The Alternative Energy Sources Of Solar And Wind Power

More and more scientists today agree that global warming is a serious issue and that the cause of global warming is carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned. Politicians, too, are being swayed as they see increases in property damaged, injuries, and even deaths due to natural catastrophes which appear to have gotten worse in recent decades.

Because fossil fuels appear to be the source of worldwide atmospheric change, people have began to look to other methods of producing energy. In addition to causing atmospheric change, there's the reality that we will run out of fossil fuels. The world's economy is based on fossil fuels but they are a finite resource. Eventually we will run out of them. Fossil fuels are not a sustainable resource. Two methods of producing energy which have little impact on the environment and are sustainable are solar and wind power.

First, we'll take a look at solar power. Solar power is, of course, power derived from the energy of the sun's rays. The limitation with this energy source is the sun itself. The sun will never run out, except at night. Solar power sources have been designed to compensate for the downtime of night or cloudy days, but solar power works best in sunny climates.

Solar power is generally used in one of three ways: to generate heat, to generate electricity, and to desalinate salt water. Solar powered heating systems are usually either active or passive in design. An active solar heating system uses pumps to circulate water which has been heated by the sun. Passive solar heating systems use the nature of water to create circulation. This method relies on the fact that heat energy wants to move into areas of lesser heat.

In generating electricity, solar power is harnessed by photovoltaic cells which convert the suns energy into electricity. These cells have been widely used to power calculators for decades. In solar desalination, the power of the sun is used to evaporate water to separate it from the salt and other undesirable minerals.

Another type of clean, renewable power comes from the wind. Wind power, while growing in popularity, still accounts for barely 1% of the world's power supply. This is hard to believe considering how much the wind blows! Wind power is usually harnessed using wind turbines.

A centuries old version of harnessing wind power is the windmill. These lovely structures used the wind to grind grains and pump water. Today's wind turbines are advanced machinery employing the latest technologies.

More and more "wind farms" are sprouting up around the world. These huge arrays of wind turbines can be found on land and offshore. The biggest ones in the US are land-based farms in California, Oregon, and Washington. There are also more and more popping up the Midwest. Because of energy costs and damage done to the environment, alternative energy sources are receiving a great deal of interest. Two of the most promising are solar and wind power.

Some Ideas On Finding Money For College

Getting ready for college can be a very stressful time. First you have to pick a school that you would like to attend, picking a major, taking your ACT or SAT tests, and start applying to schools. Parents and students are wondering how they will pay for this expensive education.

Every year Congress sets aside money to be given to students in the form of financial aid. To receive this aid students need to fill out more forms to determine their eligibility. Student aid can be a loan, a grant, a gift, or a scholarship. Most people prefer to get grants since these do not have to be paid back.

In order for the government to decide how the money will be distributed more forms will need to be filled out. The first form you will need to fill out is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can fill this form out on paper, or online. This form calculates the need of each student by gathering information about their household, demographic, and financial information.

If you are a freshman you will also be required to fill out a CSS Profile Application as well. This is also available to other students to fill out because it is another way for the government to obtain the needed information to reward the grant money.

Once this information is gathered it is compiled and it comes up with your EFC number. Your EFC number is how much the government thinks you should be able to contribute towards you education based on your state of residence, household size, number in college and student and parent income and asset information.

Next you will need to know your COA or cost of attendance. Each school figures their own COA based on tuition, room and board, fees and estimated expenses for miscellaneous costs, such as books, supplies, personal, etc. The amount varies from school to school.

After you know your EFC and your COA you can now find out how much financial aid you can possibly receive from the government. First you take your COA and subtract your EFC to get the amount of financial aid you will need. Once this number is known the financial aid office will try and help with as much as they can. Not everyone will get all the money they need, so it is recommended that you apply for student loans, gifts, and scholarships to help you with your school costs. There is just not enough money for everyone to get all the money they need to further their education.

If You Need Money For College Consider Government Grants

Education is a very important part of life; you need a college degree to succeed in today's world. Paying for college however is very expensive. The government has elected to help today's students attend college easier with various financial aid opportunities. There are many scholarships and grants available to those in need. Scholarships are generally for academic or athletic excellence and do not need to be repaid. Government grants are another form of student award money which is similar to a loan with the exception they do not need to be repaid.

Government grant money is available for many different reasons. One reason a student may qualify for grants are their income. By using a formula set by each college, grant income eligibility requirements are either met or exceeded. From that point there may be other eligibility requirements in order to qualify. Every government grant is a little different. Although qualifications for grant money may differ all grant money is similar in that you will not be required to repay it after you have finished college.

In order to find these different government grants it is best to begin with the Free Application for Student Aid otherwise known as the FAFSA. You can obtain an application from your high school guidance counselor, college financial aid offices, or by going online. You can also get help to fill out the application if you need it. By filling out this one application you will be notified of any available grants for you individual situation. Once again there are eligibility requirements to be met such as income guidelines, college choice and availability. It is also very important to pay close attention to required filing dates. The earlier in the year you apply the more grants available so be sure to get an application in as soon after January 1st of the year you intend to attend college.

Most colleges have additional requirements for entry besides payment so it is important to have good communication with your intended school. You should apply for the school first so you are sure all qualifications are met. It is best to do this as soon as the college will allow. Once you have been accepted you can send in the FAFSA to apply for grant monies. Some colleges will require you to complete a CSS profile to gather certain information that the college uses to make decisions about entrance into their facilities. You can fill out this profile via the Internet and it is generally available in October. It is a good idea to fill this application out as soon as possible to get the most from your college search.

No matter what your income is there are programs designed to help everyone have an opportunity to attend college and receive a valuable education. By using government grant money that is available many people ail be better able to attain quality higher education.

Encourage Your Child To Use His Mind With A Science Kit

Parents are always looking for things that will spark their child's imagination while giving them a valuable education at the same time. The next time you're considering what to buy for your child, consider a science kit. Remember that children love to explore and learn and the field of science allows them to do both.

Many parents might hesitate to buy this type of kit for their child because they are worried about them being dangerous or that a child might be too young to truly appreciate and learn their intended lessons. Another anticipated problem is trying to replace the different substances they might contain when they have run out and it will be relegated to the pile containing other broken and no longer used toys. Fortunately, there are four science based kits that are both child and parent friendly.

Ant Farm

Ant farms have fascinated children for years. It's a fun way to watch nature at work and provides hours of entertainment. Children will get to learn about the lives of ants and how they interact with the earth and each other. Of course, some parents might worry that the ants will escape and use the house as their farm, but while a few might get out, that should not be a concern.

Chemistry Sets

Chemistry sets are another fun way to learn about science and chemicals. The new versions of these kits are colorful and suitable for younger children and the supplies are easily replaced. For the older child, there are more advanced sets available. These contain substances that allow the older junior scientists to create other chemicals like hydrochloric acid. They are worrisome for the parents but the children love them.

Elephant Nose Fish

The Elephant Nose fish actually emits electrical charges. It is truly a wonder of nature and science. The child can listen to the sounds of the electric emissions with the use of a piezoelectric earphone. You can purchase one of these at your local Radio Shack or other stores that carry electronics. They are very easy to feed and take care of. The important thing to remember is to make sure that the top of the aquarium is closed tightly, so that they won't be able to jump out. Another important thing to keep in mind is that they need to be kept in groups of three to five fish. These fish will keep the whole family entertained.

Crystal Growing Kit

Crystal growing kits have been around for years. They are very inexpensive and it's fascinating to watch the gemstone colored crystals grow

Consider buying your child a science kit to teach them and educate them at the same time.
